Bio and History
As dairy farmers we planted many acres of field corn and always have planted sweet corn for our own use and to give to family, neighbors and friends. We did not have the time to tend a farm stand but would pick some, give it away and tell folks to ´help themselves´. Each year there would still be a lot of wonderful corn that would remain in the field. It didn´t go to waste as we would chop it and feed it to the cows, but it seemed a shame that it was not enjoyed by people.
About 11 years ago, We got the idea to put a sign out and offer it to folks driving by, very inexpensively (it started at $1/dozen). We put a cigar box on a picnic table, made some signs for directions, and that began our now, eagerly awaited, and expanded ´Pick Your Own Sweet Corn´ business. We joked that because we were really dairy farmers, this was our way to get folks to use more butter, but in all honesty, it was our way to help out anyone who was willing to make a small effort to help themselves. Advertising was only by word of mouth.
Over the years we have had to raise our prices, but presently it is still only $2.50/dozen. Yes, we do make a profit, and now we are going to advertise it more.
Where to find our products:
We are located about 2 miles North of Sagendorf Corners, almost next door to Secret Caverns. We put up signs when the corn is ready to pick.
